Forest City Gear Celebrates Mark Garey’s 25th Anniversary

August 13, 2024

Forest City Gear is proud to recognize Mark Garey on his 25th anniversary and thank him for his long-term dedication to the company.

Garey began his career at Forest City Gear as a Deburring Operator. Over the years, Garey has held positions within the Shaping Department, Honing Department, and CNC Turning/Milling Department. Garey made the move back to Forest City Gear’s Finishing Department and has been a senior member of such for the past six years.  His vast experience and superb attention to detail are fitting for his current role.

“Mark is a wealth of knowledge and a fantastic gentleman to work with. He is the first to offer his insight and help to those with lesser experience. His artistry in the finishing of critical gears is second to none,” says Mark Sweet, Forest City Gear Secondary Machining Supervisor.

When asked of his fondest memories at Forest City Gear, Garey told the story of Valentine’s Day many years ago. His wife surprised him that day by hiring a local group of barbershop singers, called the Sweet Adelines, to serenade him for the holiday.

Fred Young, Forest City Gear’s late Chairman, came strolling down the main hallway with Valentine’s balloons and two Sweet Adelines ladies on each arm. As they approached and performed “I Love You Truly,” Garey grew redder and redder.

“Although I was greatly embarrassed, it was more of a joy watching Fred’s reaction,” says Garey. “Fred was just grinning from ear to ear, and seemed to enjoy the entertainment more than I did.”
