Forest City Gear Purchases Second Mitutoyo Contour Tracer to Expand Inspection Capabilities

June 25, 2026

Forest City Gear has expanded its advanced inspection capabilities with the purchase of its second Mitutoyo FORMTRACER contour tracer, an FTA-H4C4000-D system. The addition further strengthens the company’s ability to verify complex geometries, measure intricate root fillet forms, and confirm extremely small corner break requirements with greater precision and efficiency.

The new contour tracer enhances Forest City Gear’s metrology capabilities by allowing inspection of difficult geometries that previously required the use of molds for verification. With this technology, the company can directly measure and validate complex profiles with improved accuracy and repeatability.

“Inspection technology is every bit as important as manufacturing technology when it comes to producing high-precision gears,” said Forest City Gear President Kika Young. “This investment gives us greater flexibility and confidence when verifying complex geometries, especially in areas that are traditionally difficult to inspect.”

The new Mitutoyo system also improves Forest City Gear’s ability to inspect root fillet geometry and verify very small corner break requirements, helping ensure components meet increasingly demanding customer specifications across industries including aerospace, defense, medical, and high-performance industrial applications.

This addition continues Forest City Gear’s long-standing commitment to continually expanding its inspection and quality assurance capabilities in order to better serve customers and support increasingly sophisticated gear designs.
