Forest City Gear, an industry-leading manufacturer of fine- and medium-pitch custom gears, Forest City Gear is proud to celebrate the retirement of Mark Garey after 27 years of dedicated service to the company.

Garey joined Forest City Gear in August 1999 as a member of the Secondary Machining Operations Department. He quickly became a relied-upon member of the team, developing extensive knowledge of the department’s processes and equipment and becoming a go-to resource for his colleagues.

When Forest City Gear established a turning and milling department to support high-volume work, Garey was asked to take on a role in the new operation. He once again demonstrated his reliability and technical knowledge while helping the department grow, including training new employees and sharing the experience he had gained throughout his career.

For the last decade, Garey has served as a senior member of Forest City Gear’s Gear Finishing Department. His extensive knowledge of Forest City Gear’s customers and the parts manufactured for them made him instrumental in developing processes for challenging deburring applications. He also contributed his expertise to workholding designs and tooling selection while helping train and mentor other members of the department.

“Mark is truly of the old guard,” says Mark Sweet, Garey’s supervisor. “And what I mean by that is Mark’s dedication, attention to detail, perseverance, and knowledge are traits that are difficult to find. As one of the senior members of the Gear Finishing Department, Mark will be missed and not easily replaced. I, along with his team, wish him the very best in his well-deserved retirement.”

Throughout his nearly three decades with Forest City Gear, Garey’s versatility, knowledge, and willingness to share what he learned made him a valuable resource across multiple departments and generations of employees.
