The school, run by Helios Gear Products, is designed for entry-level professionals in gear manufacturing, from engineers to operators to quality control personnel. Forest City Gear has steadfastly supported the school since its establishment in the early 1990s, when it was known as Koepfer Gear School, by hosting tours and mentoring students.

Founded in 1955 by Stetler and Evelyn Young, with one machine and a $7,000 loan from friends and family, Forest City Gear has grown from a small shop out of their garage into a globally respected manufacturer, serving a wide range of industries including aerospace, outer space, automotive & motorsports, robotics, medical instrument, and food & beverage machinery manufacturing.
